Dan's Sonata No. 1

If you didn't get the classical music reference in the title don't worry about it. This isn't about me writing an opera, no big surprise. Rather, it's about the 2009 Hyundai Sonata that Tee and I bought this past Thursday.

We had been looking to buy another car for a few months now and were just waiting for the right time. As it turned out, it took the right car at the right price to make it the right the time.

The competition included a Honda Civic, Toyota Prius, and Mazda 3, which were among Consumer Report's highest ratings for reliability, customer satisfaction, and gas mileage. All are considered compact cars and just not right for us in one way or another. The Civic had a huge dashboard and felt a little awkward but drove great. The Prius was back-ordered for like a million years or something and was the least aesthetically pleasing automobile on the list.

The Mazda 3 was actually the only real front runner--that is until we test drove the Sonata (also a Consumer Report's recommended pick). While the Mazda 3 fit like glove and was very fun to drive, it was still a small car. After driving the Protoge for 8 years, Tee and I both agreed it was time to step up a class if it we could find something in our price range with comparable gas mileage.

We chose the 4 cylinder Sonata with an automatic transmission for it's greater reliability rating and gas mileage (32 mpg) than the V6. And with 173 horsepower it doesn't disappoint in the power department. It's roomy, has a very comfortable ride, and it's roomy (did I say that already?). Another great feature is the 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain and the 5 year/50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranties. It also came with 5 years of free road-side assistance.

Like I said, it was the right car at the right time. We couldn't be happier. Enjoy the pics. I know I am not smiling, but that's a different story.
