At my last derm appointment the doctors suggested a more aggressive treatment. I was prescribed an anti-malaria drug which has a long history of safely, improving the effects of dischoid lupus. It sounded good to me because after about 10 years of struggling with a very annoying skin rash on my face, I am ready to try something more than creams and ointments.
I've been taking it for about 3 weeks and haven't noticed any side effects. I have had less irritation and itching but I still have a little redness. However, I was told it could take a while until I see a significant and possibly complete improvement.
One of the biggest problems is that being in the sun triggers an outbreak of the rash. With the summer in full force, it's almost impossible for me to stay out of the sun. It's kind of ironic that I have a condition that is worsened by sun exposure because I have always preferred dark and cloudy days to bright and sunny ones.

Biopsy - Serious Consideration
My skin analysis shows I have a form of Lupus that attacks the tissues of skin on my face. This is bad news of course for what it could mean, not what it currently means. For those who don't know, Lupus is a disease where the immune system attacks a part of the body as a threat primarily causing inflammation. In my case, it's the small parts of skin on my face.
There are diferent types of Lupus, the more serious being systemic Lupus. This type can attack organs like the heart or brain causing serious illness and in some cases death. As of now, there is no indication that I have developed or will develop the much more serious form of Lupus, but it remains a possibility that I must take into consideration.
Otherwise, my bloodwork looked and I feel great. I'll keep posted of any new developments.

One Suture Please!
Anyone who has seen me in person knows that I have a bit of a skin issue on my face. Well I went to the Dermatologist today to let them have a looksie and they cut me--not exactly like a pig but it was exciting.
A small piece of my skin is now the property of the University Clinics. Hopefully, an analysis of it will help figure out what's going on, on my face. They also took some blood to check my body chemicals. If they don't find anything, it won't be for a lack of looking.
